Montage: Activity 1

Activity 1: Blog Entry
Briefly discuss why you think painters of the Victorian period might have criticized these early photomontages and why the pictures were popular with the general public. (This technique of piecing together separate images to create one picture is again very popular with both artists and the media).
What two reasons can you think of for this revival of an old technique?

I believe the reason painter criticized early photo montages was that painters only could have two separate or more objects in the same pictures. Allowing the photographers just to take normal pictures and not involving other objects. The photographers had to express their work in a different sense for the public. Which in my my opinion the public enjoyed this new type of photography because it was never done by photographer. Bringing together different object to the same picture, who thought of that, not only painters can do that. Also the photographers gave the public something new to look at.

An old technique that rivaled this technique was portraits. This is because photographers cut out pieces of work and put them in to a new pictures, such as the eyes and arms above.
