Self Image: Activity 3

Activity 3: Blog Entry

Consider some of the social pressures that you think may shape your behavior and personal image. List the images most commonly associated with the categories or ‘boxes’ you have already listed in Activity 1.
How have you responded to social pressures to conform by adopting an appearance that relates to the categories that you feel you have placed in or have chosen?

The social pressures that I think may shape my behavior and personal image is the acting like what is in style and what other people like. I do like to be in style, but some people that are more wealthy want to change what brand i wear. Then if I do not wear what is in style my personal image is looking bad, to my opinion I don't really mind at all. My response to the social pressure to conform myself is that I do not let little things bother me, this is because many of the people I know i will not know later in life. Mostly right after high school many people will be living in different locations.

Find images in the media, which have been used to represent attractive and unattractive aspects of the human face. Examine and record carefully the photographic techniques used to accentuate both these qualities, drawing up a list that relates to the images you have found.

I seen above these are two Victoria Secret Models, one sides shows them without makeup and one with makeup. The photographic techniques in these are that the pictures with the makeup get to media, and people, mostly females, are like amazed how beautiful they are.

List the physical characteristics that we have come to admire in both the male and female face and write 100 words in response to the following questions:
  • Do you believe that media images or public opinion are responsible for the characteristics of beauty becoming universal stereotypes?
  • Do you believe people admiring media images of glamorous models can do any harm?

1. I do believe the media images are responsible for the universal stereotypes. Such as the pictures above, people think that all female should be skinny, nice body, and look like they do bot have make up on but they do. Mostly for them to look like perfection. Same goes to the public opinion, some people will think somebody is not attractive, and make them feel bad. As the other person thinks that they are not living up to the expectations of theirs. Soon enough people will become what other people want to be. Then leading to the stereotypes people have. So yes I do believe that media and public opinions are responsible for the stereotype in life.

2. Yes, I do believe admiring media images of glamorous models could do harm. The harm would be a teenage girl looking at a victoria model and be stunned on how glamorous she is. Then they will be wanting to be as skinny and nice looking their faces are. Which then if they want to be skinny, they might be too skinny and will not be satisfied with them selfs. This may lead to starvation, which is a harm to them. It is possible for media models to harm others.

Create four images that contain a mixture of solid (sharp) and fluid (blur) forms. Using the camera that you have been check out, create these four images as creatively and artistically as you can!

In this camera there were subject the were blurred but then subjects that were solid and sharp. For the top left picture of a student, the student stayed still why his head was moving horizontal. Cause his face blurry. The top right picture the girl stood still, sitting. While the other students were moving. The next image was a guy hitting the pool ball and while he is still. The same concept with the other pool pictures.
