Montage: Activity 2

Activity 2: Blog Entry
Find two examples of political photomontages that are either from a historical or contemporary source.
Discuss in what context they have been produced and how effective you think they communicate their intended message.
Discuss the techniques that have been used to assemble the examples you have chosen and offer alternative ways that the artist could have put over the same message.

This photomontage directly to women, and how they act. The context the photographer is stating how women are taking their selfies, not taking care of their children and making other destructions. When women should be doing other helpful activities towards their life. To say the least, it is stereotypical but that is what the photographer intended by this photomontage. The techniques the photographers has used are having a women and pasting an explosion in the background to make you assume that it is a woman's fault.

In this photomontage, this is towards America and the drinking in America. In the photo the photographer states on how in cities all there is to do is drink. Which then would make you do reckless choices, such as having a kid while you're drinking. That the intention from the photographer. Some of the techniques the photographer has us is putting the American flag an dropping the opacity so the viewers knows it's America. Also pasting whisky bottles and putting light on the bottle.

Montage: Activity 1

Activity 1: Blog Entry
Briefly discuss why you think painters of the Victorian period might have criticized these early photomontages and why the pictures were popular with the general public. (This technique of piecing together separate images to create one picture is again very popular with both artists and the media).
What two reasons can you think of for this revival of an old technique?

I believe the reason painter criticized early photo montages was that painters only could have two separate or more objects in the same pictures. Allowing the photographers just to take normal pictures and not involving other objects. The photographers had to express their work in a different sense for the public. Which in my my opinion the public enjoyed this new type of photography because it was never done by photographer. Bringing together different object to the same picture, who thought of that, not only painters can do that. Also the photographers gave the public something new to look at.

An old technique that rivaled this technique was portraits. This is because photographers cut out pieces of work and put them in to a new pictures, such as the eyes and arms above.

Portraiture and Studio Photography: Activity 3

Activity 3

Collect four portrait images with two to five subjects. In at least one image the subject should have been placed in the foreground.Comment on the arrangement of the subjects in relation to the camera and the effectiveness of the design.

All the the four portrait pictures have a foreground subject to say the least. In all the pictures all the subjects are in the middle. Mostly to be the center of attention of the picture. Also if you look to the way they are placed it goes to shortest to biggest. Either as in a staircase feel or a horizontal angle. The light is straight on, due to the fact that all the subject faces are visible and the necks are darker.

Portraiture and Studio Photography: Activity 2

Activity 2

Find four portraits that demonstrate the different ways a photographer has framed the image to alter the design and content. Discuss the vantage point, depth of field and subject placement in all of the images.

Martin Schoeller

Danny Santos

The two photographers that took these two images, has framed the subject in the middle and taking most of the space in the frame. I believe they did this so the people that view these images are to think how perfect and flawless their face are. The vantage point is up close and personal. This depth of filed is shallow depth of field. It is shallow because, they are close, like a wall. Again the placement is centered.

These two photos vantage point is dynamic angle, a clever way to take portraits. The depth of field for both of these photos are shallow depth of field. The placement of the subject were to lead to the face and focus on the face. While the two photographer has put the subject in a unique way to lead to their faces.

Portraiture and Studio Photography: Activity 1

Activity 1
Look through assorted media, magazines, internet and collect four portrait photographs. The environment should be a key feature in two of the four images.Describe the subject’s character in each of the images. What can you see within each image that leads you to these conclusions about the subjects’ character.
People.com

In this magazine, "People", Angelina Jolie is on the front cover and is mentioned being the 100 most beautiful people. Which in some peoples eyes would agree she is beautiful. If one was to look at this magazine it would say that she is happy and agrees with the caption. Concluding that her character might be friendly, anyone could get along.

Star.com

On the cover of Star, Angelina Jolie is humiliated by Brad Pitt. The character in this would be insulted by one, which Angelina gives a face that she just been insulted and humiliated. I believe this because she in a interview and looks like she does not know what to do, the character is humiliated.

news.com

The environment in the photo is at the, "Video Music Awards". Kanye's character in this photo would be selfish and rude towards Taylor Swift winning the award. It leads me to think this, by the reaction of Taylor Swift's, is this really happening right now? Which did happen, this was Kanye's worst act.

paperbog.com

Kanye West is walking with his wife, Kim Kardashian. The environment is in public and people taking photos of him and his wife. The character of him is not wanting to be there, because he believe he is better than other. I think this because the way he looks at the people taking the photo.
